Brunel Logo Brunel University

Brunel has been a university since 1966 and in that time has developed extensive and rewarding links with industry and commerce. Situated in west London, the university is dedicated to providing a world class education for its 14,000 students. Brunel has an international student population of some 2,500, who come from over 114 different countries.

The University’s campus is situated on the western edge of London and is close to London Heathrow airport. Central London is just a short ride away by public transport but so too is the lovely countryside of the home counties.

Brunel is one of the UK’s most ambitious, forward-looking universities and is well into a £250 million investment programme, including new on-campus accommodation.

Academic strengths

At Brunel, research is at the heart of all we do. It underpins – indeed leads to – most of the taught courses we offer and informs the academic work of our students. It is responsible for much of our collaborative work with business, industry and the public sector. Brunel has always prided itself on the quality and relevance of its academic work and is renowned for ground-breaking research across a number of disciplines, including information technology, public health, screen media, sustainability and many more. The quality of teaching at Brunel University is comprehensively backed up by the Quality Audit Agency (QAA) subject reviews, which give Brunel a 100% “excellent” standard in every subject assessed since 1999.

Brunel offers courses across a wide range of subject areas including engineering, business, design, computing and maths, education, social sciences (including law, economics), humanities, visual and performing arts, sport sciences, environment, health and social care.

For international students, the university offers a range of preparatory courses, including foundation and pre-masters, plus pre and in-sessional English language and study skill programmes which support students throughout their studies.

Facilities

Brunel has recently invested over £250 million in the development of its campus, including modern teaching facilities, new halls of residence, and state-of the art sporting facilities. The on-campus accommodation is guaranteed for international students during their first year providing they apply before the deadline. All rooms have free internet access.

There is also an arts centre, campus library, medical centre and counselling service. Students will also find an on-campus supermarket, pharmacy, bank and several food outlets including a refectory and coffee shop. Brunel is particularly proud of its careers centre and job shop which boasts a specialised International Careers Advisor to help students with their long-term career plans and to find part-time work. A meeting house is also available for all faiths and weekly worship is arranged for Christians and Muslims.

Location

Brunel is based in Uxbridge, on the western edge of London – close enough to the capital to sample the delights of one of the greatest cities in the world, but far enough away to avoid the high costs, noise and the sheer number of people. Central London is just a short ride away by public transport, but so too is the lovely countryside of the home counties.

Uxbridge is a compact and friendly town with a generous array of shops, bars and restaurants. There are two large shopping centres and some hidden gems dotted around the area, such as the huge Colne Valley Park and the Grand Union Canal.

The University’s location provides easy access to Heathrow, central London and the road and rail transport network that provides speedy access across London and the rest of the UK.
